New York City's Theater District is contained within a thin strip of Manhattan, from 53rd to 42nd streets, between 6th and 8th Aves, also called the Great White Way. There are approximately 36 theaters crammed into this small area of the city, most of which host world famous productions nightly.
For Broadway fans, dining and staying in and around the theater district is a must. With dozens of fine dining, casual, ethnic and fast-food restaurants to choose from, the Theater District is a food mecca. The block of West 46th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues is well-known as Restaurant Row for its many offerings and wide variety of cuisines. Here you will find everything from traditional steakhouse fare at Broadway Joe to Italian Jewish cuisine at Lattanzi, to a great selection of beers and world cuisine at Joshua Tree.
On street parking is available for only $2/hour every evening and all day Saturday in the Theater district, and if you allow yourself a bit of extra time for finding a spot it may be worth the effort. Note that the Department of Transportation is accepting credit cards at over 500 muni-meters in the Theater District. In this area, 3rd Ave to 8th Ave (East/West) from 57th to 43rd Streets (North/South) you can use your Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover Network cards to pay for parking without an additional fee or minimum. These meters will also continue to accept payment by quarter, dollar coin or NYC Parking Card. Look for the credit card logo on the meters in this area for acceptance.
